Overlooking the Lake
High pitched, fast talking kids
are birdlike with chatter
in the woods
surrounding the lake.
Human chickadees.
Those swimming
churn like piranhas.
I am older
move slowly, a heron.
Compadres in the woods
sound like owls
make dolphin ripples
in the water.
And I’m lost in my head
at Lost Lake because
I’m writing a poem
about nature
for the poetry marathon.
