tiny green shoots

push through moist spring soil.

 Race skyward at startling speed, strong.

Prophesy of Knee high by the Fourth of July.

Gargantuan grandfather stands tall, thick husks full.

~ ~ ~ Surrenders ~ ~ ~

Knowing hands pull corn. He is resigned to his fate

as he fades like a watercolor left out in fall rains.

No longer a monument above all other crops

Autumn winds bend and blow him.
