Apples and I Have A Long History That's Hard to Explain...

Apples so varied

like they are fairies.

We know each other,

just like we're brothers.

Taste so heavenly,

I'm in ecstasy.

***

Handsome when polished,

will be demolished.

Crisp, chopped-up and steamed

worthy of esteem.

Grated, sliced, and baked,

best cooked in pancakes.

Cobblers, jams or peeled

adds gusto to meals.

Raw or in fritters

loved by all critters.

Pies, stewed, or roasted.

Praise to the hostess.

            But

Those who have dentures,

have misadventures.

Rotten, bad, fallen,

some missed their calling.

Shriveled and wormy,

can make you squirmy.

            Yet

Golden Delicious

mostly auspicious.

Gravenstein’s the queens,

deserve our cuisine.

Honey Gold’s are bold,

they pay off tenfold.

Winesaps deserve claps,

delicious in frappes.

Eat King of Pippins

like there's slim pickin's.

The Arkansas Black's

make major impacts.

Jonagold's all told,

are gifts to behold.

Northern Spy's, allies

that I bake in pies.

***

The moral with apples

is not to do battle.

Just take what you get.

like rainbows with scents.
