Sarajevo

Beauty is like

the blank slate

of a young child

not surprised

if a chair floats

in the air and

does a somersault,

lands on one leg

and teeters there

before bursting

into song.

Beauty can

be obvious.

Or it can be

self-absorbed

and not see

its own shadow,

dark and

threatening.

Shudders and booms

can destroy in

seconds what

took years

to create.

Always easier

to tear down

than build up.

And which

we choose

will tell us

who we are.
