The Reign of Rain
Ode to the Northwest
Rain laughs from his throne
sends his minions to play
whoopee they yell
tripping over one another
want to be first down the chutes
parachuting from the sky
grab 3D glasses
can’t wait
for all the fun rides
amusement park signs flash
over mountains and sound
they crash and splash
trampoline every which way
liquid knees
squishy joints
somersault and collide
bounce wildly in mush
rage down gutters
gush like waterslides
bungee jumpers
storm troopers
seep into soil and recoil
springboards of joy
revel in liquidity
ready to burst

*****
king watches, then
thunders a message
to return
his children are
relieved and ready for sleep
stop splashing in mud
wait for bright orb
to melt them
back up
to pillows
in the sky
know it won’t be too long
till king calls for more fun
